Fully 22% of 18- to 24-year-olds now report using mobile dating apps, a more than fourfold increase from the 5% who reported using dating apps in 2013.These young adults are now more likely than any other age group to use mobile dating apps.For instance, one in ten Americans have used an online dating site or mobile dating app; 66% of these users have gone on a date with someone they met through a dating site or app, and 23% have met a spouse or long term partner through these sites (1).It is estimated that the industry is worth more than £2bn globally (2).The share of 18- to 24-year-olds who report having used online dating has nearly tripled in the last two years.

The amount includes payments for dating services (M), preparing for the date and the cost of the date itself. The most common pre-date costs include new clothes (68%), hair (35%), new shoes (28%) and makeup (20%).
As Rebecca Mc Grath, research analyst at Mintel says: “The popularity of free dating apps has made a big impact on online dating over the last several years by dispelling perceptions, opening up online dating to a new market and driving mobile usage.
